VA001 Antique German Viola Short-Medium Scale
Sold or On Loan
This is a fantastic antique viola made by an unknown German maker in the late 19th Century.
The viola has been in our workshops near Manchester where it has been professionally set up to the highest standards by our esteemed luthier who gained a distinction at the Newark School of Violin Making and has had over 35 years of professional violin making, repairing and restoration.
The varnish is a warm orange brown colour which makes the flaming of the maple on the two piece back really stand out. The sound is very confident, clear, warm and very resonant.
The innards are very neatly lined and there are no splits or worm whatsoever in the viola. Our luthier has installed brand new Pirastro Tonica strings of the correct length to match the slightly shorter body length of this viola. Our luthier has also handmade a bridge to fit exactly to the curvature of the body. The fingerboard has also been shot so the viola will be perfectly in tune.
