    Antique cello bows from France, Germany and England hailing from the 18th, 19th and 20th Century. 

    B186 A Good Cello Bow Made by Charles Nicolas Bazin in Mirecourt circa 1880

    Charles Nicolas Bazin was an important maker in the French Mirecourt school of bow making.  His father, Francois Xavier, ran a large workshop in Mirecourt and unfortunately died when Charles was aged only 18, leaving him to run the workshop on his own. Charles made a large success of it and the workshops of Charles Nicolas Bazin became highly regarded and were responsible for producing some of the best bows and bow makers of the period including the Fetique brothers. 

     

    This bow is a great example of Charle's work in good condition.  Sold with the certificate of authenticity from the renowned bow expert Pierre Guillaume. 

     

    A fine playing stick and good fun to use.

    B201 A Fine Cello Bow by Malcolm Taylor, England

    This is a superb cello bow made by Malcolm Taylor in Barnstaple, during the Christmas of 1998.  

     

    Malcolm worked for the prestigious violin dealership W. E. Hill & Sons from 1949-1973, eventually becoming workshop manager in 1962.  This bow was made when Malcolm left Hills and set up independently. It is sold with the original letters of correspondence, invoice and certificate of authenticity from Malcolm. A great playing stick in good condition. Mounted in gold and ebony.

    B124 A Fine Cello Bow Made in France for Gustave Bernardel Early 20th Century

    This is a beautiful cello bow made at the beginning of the 20th Century in France for Gustave Bernardel possibly by Claude Thomassin. It's made from a rich, dense pernambuco with ebony and silver mounts in superb condition. It has a great even tone with plenty of bounce and spring, perfect for the advanced student or professional.

    B123 A Very Fine Cello Bow Made in Paris for Charles Enel Early 20th Century

    A beautiful powerful cello bow made in Paris for the reputable dealer and violin maker Charles Enel at the beginning of the 20th Century. 

    It's fully silver mounted and in great condition. It draws a powerful, sophisticated tone which is great fun to play and perfect for soloists.

    B006 Cello Bow by John Dodd Circa. 1800

    A superb cello bow by the greatest English maker of the period John Dodd.  This bow is a fantastic early example of Dodd's work, the bow is in immaculate condition.  In Dodd's early years as a bow maker he obtained his pernambuco wood from Brazilian barrels which were the perfect curvature for bows.  However the barrels were often pinned together with small nails.  This bow has some of the nail holes still visible along the shaft, which John has meticulously plugged with ebony.  A true masterpiece of a bow!

    A wonderful copy of a Francois Nicolas Voirin cello bow.  The quality is excellent, the pernambuco wood is very fine and the silver mounts are in great condition. Made in Germany in the early 20th Century.

    B005 Fine Cello Bow by John Dodd Circa 1820

    Great cello bow by the famous English maker John Dodd circa 1820. Quality pernambuco and silver mounts makes this a great playing bow.  There has been some restoration in this bow's lifetime, done by a very proficient professional. Never the less this bow is still in great condition for it's age!
